Sasquatch 2008
The 1st annual Sasquatch Uphill/Downhill Race, sponsored by the Ski Patrol at Ski Hesperus in February 2008. After the lifts closed the 18 contestents ascended 800 vertical feet and then turned around to travel back downhill via their preferred mode of snow gliding equipment. The contestants included people on telemark skis, randonee gear, snowboards, and split boards.
1st to the bottom was Rohan Roy 16:50
1st to the top and 2nd to the bottom was James Whitesides 16:52
3rd place was Otto Krichman 17:10
4th place was Lisa Lieb 18:10
5th place was Eddie Stern 18:20
Other prizes were for: Best Fall was Dave Banga
Last to the Bottom was Laura Cowell
Best Costume was Pat Hickey
Other contestants were: Carol Morse, Sarah Armstrong, Rob Bitner, Dave Sip, Robin Lorck, Anna Lauer, Joe Szekely, Mary Kelly, Crystal Fankhauser, and Kylle Schane.
We are grateful for sposors: Ska Brewing, Gardenswartz, Ski Barn, Pine Needle, and Bread- they all donated prizes for the racers. Also a THANKS to Ski Hesperus and Jim Pitcher for letting us have the race on the ski area!
This race is inspired by the Crested Butte race- the Al Johnson Uphill/Downhill.
